Why is Prysmian stock rallying today?
Prysmian SpA stock rose 1.6% to trade at €109.5 after the Italian cable manufacturer reported its strongest quarter on record, with third-quarter adjusted EBITDA surging 32.1% year-on-year to €851 million, comfortably ahead of the €793 million analyst consensus, while revenues climbed 13.1% organically to €6.42 billion, also topping expectations.
Alongside the results, the company raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance to a range of €3.075–3.125 billion, up sharply from the prior €2.8–2.9 billion, and lifted free cash flow guidance to €1.75–1.85 billion. CEO Massimo Battaini described the quarter as Prysmian’s "best quarter to date," adding that the performance put the group on course to exceed its 2028 financial targets two full years ahead of schedule.
The earnings beat was broad-based across all divisions: the Transmission segment posted 23.1% organic revenue growth with a 20% EBITDA margin, Digital Solutions grew 17.3% organically with its margin expanding to 25% from 19.6% a year earlier, and Industrial & Construction — buoyed by data-centre demand — delivered 14.2% organic growth.
While group net profit fell 31.4% to €408 million, this was widely attributed to a high base from a one-off gain on the 2025 YOFC stake sale rather than any operational deterioration. The constructive analyst backdrop — with Buy ratings maintained by Bank of America, Jefferies, and Citi ahead of today’s release — helped amplify the market’s positive reaction to the results.
The broader Milan market provided a headwind rather than a tailwind: the FTSE MIB opened down approximately 0.3%, dragged lower by a decline in banking stocks and a sharp drop in Campari following its own quarterly update.
Investors were also cautious ahead of an ECB policy meeting and the Italian government’s approval of a budget that included a significant levy on the financial sector. Prysmian’s outperformance on the day was therefore driven entirely by company-specific factors.
The combination of a record operational quarter, a meaningful guidance upgrade, and the CEO’s confidence in accelerating the group’s long-term roadmap gave investors a clear fundamental reason to buy the stock, more than offsetting a soft market environment and the stock’s recent pullback from its 52-week high of €157.25.
