Why is Porsche AG Preferred stock rallying today?
Porsche AG Preferred stock climbed 1.9% to reach €42.11 today after the Stuttgart-based sports car maker published its Q3 and nine-month 2026 results before the Xetra open, revealing a sharp recovery in profitability that reassured investors about CEO Michael Leiters’ restructuring plan.
Nine-month operating profit climbed to €1.74 billion from a near-breakeven €40 million in the same period last year, when the company was burdened by €2.7 billion in charges tied to its halted electrification strategy.
The group’s operating return on sales expanded to 6.9% from just 0.2%, while management confirmed its full-year guidance for revenue of €35–36 billion and an operating return on sales of 5.5%–7.5%.
While revenue and absolute operating profit came in slightly below analyst expectations — with Q3 revenue declining 7.5% to €8.05 billion — the Q3 operating margin of 4.8% met consensus, and the company’s "value over volume" strategy showed tangible progress, with average vehicle selling prices rising to €126,000 from €120,000 despite a 16% drop in total deliveries to 178,532 units.
JPMorgan analyst Jose Asumendi maintained an Overweight rating and €50 price target on the same morning, describing the quarter as solid and confirming increased momentum compared to the prior year, with Porsche having reaffirmed its annual targets in a challenging environment. Deutsche Bank had similarly held a Buy rating ahead of the print.
The broader German equity market offered little macro support, with the DAX trading marginally in negative territory on the day, meaning the stock’s gains were almost entirely attributable to company-specific developments.
Peers in the German automotive sector, including BMW and Mercedes-Benz, did not release major results on the same day, leaving Porsche as a standalone earnings mover within the space.
Taken together, the combination of a clear year-on-year profit recovery, a maintained full-year outlook, and prompt analyst endorsement from JPMorgan created a compelling catalyst for buyers, pushing the preferred shares to a session high of €43.06 before settling back toward €42.11 — still comfortably above the prior close of €41.33 and meaningfully above the 52-week low of €35.62.
