Why is Wacker Chemie stock gaining today?
Wacker Chemie O.N. stock is trading higher today after the German specialty chemicals group reported third-quarter 2026 results that beat analyst expectations and lifted its full-year earnings guidance.
The company posted EBITDA of €217 million for the third quarter, up 94% year-over-year from €112 million and slightly ahead of the €211 million recorded in the second quarter. For fiscal 2026, Wacker maintained its sales guidance for mid-single-digit percentage growth but upgraded its EBITDA outlook to the upper half of the €625 million to €750 million range.
The EBITDA increase was primarily attributable to savings from the PACE cost-savings and efficiency program, which the company launched in October 2025, along with a €35 million special effect from a contract termination in the Polysilicon division.
The company also adjusted its net financial debt forecast to around €200 million from approximately €500 million, primarily due to cash inflows from selling Siltronic shares and securities.
On the analyst front, JPMorgan maintained its "Underweight" rating on Wacker Chemie with a price target of €62 following the quarterly numbers, with analyst Chetan Udeshi noting that EBITDA was broadly in line with expectations while cash flow development came in significantly better than anticipated.
Higher selling prices and the ongoing cost program drove Wacker Chemie’s summer quarter performance, with many European chemical companies currently benefiting from improved pricing as Asian competition faces greater disruption from the conflict between Iran and the United States, which is weighing heavily on oil and gas deliveries to Asia.
On the macro front, the ECB raised all three key rates by 25 basis points in September, taking the deposit facility rate to 2.50%, and its Governing Council held its next monetary policy meeting on October 28–29, with the press conference scheduled for October 29. In a Reuters poll, 70 of 73 economists expected the deposit rate to stay at 2.50% this month, providing a broadly stable rate backdrop for European industrials.
The combination of a meaningful earnings beat, a positive guidance revision, and a broadly supportive macro environment — with the ECB widely expected to hold rates steady — helped lift Wacker Chemie’s shares today.
The JPMorgan "Underweight" stance and lingering weakness in the underlying polysilicon business tempered the magnitude of the move, but the overall message from management of improving profitability and a stronger balance sheet was enough to push the stock to a fresh session high of 74.15, near its 52-week low of 73.5, suggesting investors see the earnings release as a potential turning point for the shares.
