Why is AlzChem stock sliding today?

AlzChem stock is sliding 6.6% to trade at €152 after the company’s Q3 2026 earnings report, released before the open today, revealed a notable profit shortfall that caught investors off guard.

While nine-month group sales grew a respectable 4% and EBITDA rose 8%, the isolated third-quarter figures told a more troubling story: EBITDA slipped to €28.7 million from €29.7 million a year earlier, the EBITDA margin contracted by 1.2 percentage points to 20.5%, and net profit tumbled from €16.3 million to €13.5 million — all falling short of analyst consensus estimates that had called for €29.9 million in Q3 EBITDA and €14.9 million in net income.

Management attributed the squeeze to higher energy and raw-material costs, as well as one-time ramp-up expenditures associated with new production facilities.

The confirmed full-year 2026 guidance — targeting approximately €600 million in group sales and around €126 million in EBITDA — provided no positive surprise to offset the quarterly miss. A share buyback program of up to €20 million, authorized just two days prior and set to commence following today’s results, offered some structural support but was insufficient to reverse the selling pressure triggered by the earnings disappointment.

On the broader market front, Germany’s DAX index edged modestly higher today, meaning AlzChem’s sharp decline was entirely company-driven rather than a reflection of overall market weakness. The European Central Bank was also scheduled to announce its rate decision today, with markets widely expecting the deposit rate to remain unchanged at 2.50%, keeping the macro backdrop relatively neutral for German equities.

Taken together, a Q3 profit decline that missed analyst expectations on multiple metrics — compounded by cost headwinds that showed no sign of abating — proved to be the decisive catalyst for today’s sharp move lower, overwhelming the positive narrative of the company’s nine-month trajectory and its ongoing capacity expansion in both defense and nutrition segments.
