U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.24%

U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Telecoms, Consumer Services and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.24%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.52%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.21%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 2.88% or 6.53 points to trade at 233.21 at the close. Meanwhile, Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) added 1.53% or 1.61 points to end at 106.50 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) was up 1.30% or 2.84 points to 221.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which fell 3.68% or 11.95 points to trade at 313.22 at the close. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) declined 2.76% or 4.57 points to end at 161.02 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) was down 2.76% or 2.64 points to 92.71.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Crown Castle International Corp (NYSE:CCI) which rose 9.06% to 85.97, CrowdStrike Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CRWD) which was up 8.25% to settle at 257.57 and Palo Alto Networks Inc (NASDAQ:PANW) which gained 7.22% to close at 380.55.

The worst performers were LKQ Corporation (NASDAQ:LKQ) which was down 22.47% to 17.42 in late trade, Globe Life Inc (NYSE:GL) which lost 8.09% to settle at 154.79 and AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) which was down 7.96% to 20.93 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were AI OKTO CORP (NASDAQ:AIOK) which rose 183.76% to 12.06, ClearOne Inc (NASDAQ:CLRO) which was up 69.27% to settle at 3.25 and Bolt Biotherapeutics (NASDAQ:BOLT) which gained 53.68% to close at 6.27.

The worst performers were Aardvark Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:AARD) which was down 64.81% to 1.39 in late trade, SHF Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SHFS) which lost 61.39% to settle at 0.13 and Stardust Power Inc (OTC:SDST) which was down 52.00% to 0.01 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1735 to 961 and 102 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2023 fell and 1345 advanced, while 193 ended unchanged.

Shares in LKQ Corporation (NASDAQ:LKQ) fell to 5-year lows; down 22.47% or 5.05 to 17.42. Shares in Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) rose to all time highs; rising 2.88% or 6.53 to 233.21. Shares in AI OKTO CORP (NASDAQ:AIOK) rose to all time highs; up 183.76% or 7.81 to 12.06. Shares in Aardvark Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:AARD) fell to all time lows; losing 64.81% or 2.56 to 1.39. Shares in Stardust Power Inc (OTC:SDST) fell to all time lows; falling 52.00% or 0.01 to 0.01.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.21% to 19.45.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.06% or 2.37 to $4,010.27 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.13% or 0.13 to hit $103.14 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.09% or 0.10 to trade at $116.62 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 1.12, while USD/JPY rose 0.03% to 156.82.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.00% at 101.66.
