Akebia Therapeutics receives Nasdaq notice for minimum bid price deficiency

Akebia Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:AKBA) announced it received a deficiency letter from the Nasdaq Stock Market on Wednesday, notifying the company that its common stock has closed below the minimum $1.00 per share bid price for 30 consecutive business days, as required by Nasdaq Listing Rule 5550(a)(2). The stock currently trades at $0.57, near its 52-week low of $0.54, down 81% over the past year.

According to a statement based on the company’s SEC filing, the notice does not immediately affect the listing of Akebia’s common stock on the Nasdaq Capital Market. The company has 180 calendar days, until April 19, 2027, to regain compliance. To do so, the closing bid price of Akebia’s common stock must meet or exceed $1.00 per share for at least 10 consecutive business days during this period.

If Akebia does not regain compliance by the end of the initial compliance period, it may be eligible for an additional 180-day extension, provided it meets other continued listing requirements and informs Nasdaq of its intention to cure the deficiency, which could include a reverse stock split.

Should the company fail to meet the requirements after the second compliance period, Nasdaq staff would issue a delisting notice. Akebia would then have the opportunity to appeal the decision to a Nasdaq Hearings Panel. There is no assurance that any such appeal would be successful.

Akebia stated it intends to monitor its closing bid price and evaluate available options to regain compliance, which may include a reverse stock split. The company noted that there is no assurance it will be able to regain compliance with the bid price requirement or maintain compliance with other listing standards.

This information is based on a press release statement included in the company’s recent SEC filing.

In other recent news, Akebia Therapeutics reported mixed results for the second quarter of 2026. The company surpassed Wall Street’s expectations for earnings per share with a loss of $0.03, compared to the anticipated loss of $0.04. However, Akebia missed revenue projections, reporting $49 million in total sales against the forecasted $50.93 million, marking a 21.5% decline from the previous year. Analysts at H.C. Wainwright have reiterated a Buy rating on Akebia, maintaining a price target of $6.00. The firm emphasizes Akebia’s focus on commercializing its oral tablet VAFSEO for chronic kidney disease anemia patients on dialysis and advancing its kidney disease pipeline. These developments highlight the company’s ongoing strategic efforts amid fluctuating financial performance.
