Why is Tempus AI stock rallying today?

Tempus AI stock rose 3.2% in pre-open trading after the company reported third-quarter 2026 results that significantly exceeded Wall Street expectations on both earnings and revenue.

Adjusted EPS came in at $0.07 against a consensus estimate calling for a loss of $0.09 per share, while revenue of $411.5 million grew 23% year-over-year and edged past analyst forecasts of approximately $409 million.

The earnings strength was broad-based: the diagnostics segment generated $303.5 million in revenue, up 20% year-over-year, powered by oncology test volume growth of 32%, while the Data and Applications segment rose 33% to $108.1 million. Particularly notable was the surge in Minimal Residual Disease test volume, which jumped approximately 300% to around 12,000 tests in the quarter.

Management also raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $1.60–$1.605 billion and maintained its adjusted EBITDA target of approximately $65 million, with the guidance midpoint slightly ahead of the prior analyst consensus.

The broader market provided a modestly constructive backdrop, with U.S. equity futures pointing higher as investors attempted to stabilize following a sharp tech-driven sell-off the prior Friday — itself triggered by disappointing results from large-cap technology names and growing skepticism about the near-term returns on AI infrastructure spending.

The S&P 500 gained +0.4% and the Nasdaq advanced +0.7% on the day, though sentiment remained cautious ahead of the U.S. midterm elections on November 3 and with no Federal Reserve rate decision scheduled.

Taken together, a decisive earnings and revenue beat, an upward revision to full-year guidance, and accelerating volume trends across Tempus AI’s core oncology and data businesses combined to drive the pre-market gain, allowing the stock to outperform the broader technology sector rebound and close in on its one-year analyst consensus price target.
