Why is Legrand stock surging today?
Legrand stock surged 5.4% today after the Limoges-based electrical and digital infrastructure group published its nine-month 2026 results before the opening bell, delivering a broad-based beat across revenue and profitability metrics.
Third-quarter revenue came in at €2,929 million, representing 19% organic growth and landing roughly 9% above what analysts had expected, while adjusted operating profit of €608 million exceeded consensus by approximately 10%, with the margin holding steady at 20.8%.
Crucially, the company raised its full-year 2026 organic growth guidance to 11–13% from a prior range of 8–10%, with the new midpoint sitting meaningfully above the analyst consensus of around 10%, and lifted its total revenue growth outlook to 20–22% from 16–19%.
The standout driver behind the numbers was Legrand’s data center business, which posted organic growth of close to 40% over the first nine months of the year, fueled by the ongoing global buildout of AI infrastructure.
CEO Benoît Coquart noted: "In the first nine months of 2026, Legrand delivered very strong sales growth of +22% excluding currency effects, driven notably by organic growth in data centers of close to +40%, as well as contributions from both energy transition solutions and acquisitions."
Analyst reactions were broadly positive, with AlphaValue flagging potential upward estimate revisions of 2–5%, while prior upgrades from Goldman Sachs (to Buy, target €172) and Evercore ISI (to Outperform, target €175) provided additional tailwinds for the shares.
The broader market environment added a constructive backdrop. European equities rallied today, with the STOXX 600 rising 0.5% to hover near its highest levels since August, lifted by a Democratic victory in U.S. midterm elections that eased fears of unilateral trade tariffs — a relief for export-oriented European industrials like Legrand.
The CAC 40, Legrand’s benchmark index, also advanced, with Legrand itself leading the index higher on the session.
Taken together, a rare combination of a substantial earnings beat, a double-digit guidance upgrade, and a supportive macro and political backdrop created the conditions for today’s sharp move, pushing Legrand’s shares to a session high of €135.20 and firmly recouping the prior session’s decline.
