Why is Informa stock sliding today?

Informa PLC stock is sliding 1.5% today after the FTSE 100-listed events and data group published a Nine-Month Trading Update disclosing a sharp cut to its full-year revenue growth guidance, now tracking at around 3% compared with the prior guidance of approximately 6%, entirely as a result of renewed force majeure disruption in Saudi Arabia.

The company was forced to move the 2026 Global Health Exhibition in Riyadh to a virtual format and postpone Cityscape Global to January 2027, eliminating what had been expected to be a meaningful revenue contribution from the Kingdom for the remainder of the year.

Despite the revenue guidance reduction, Informa maintained its outlook for double-digit underlying earnings growth — excluding dilution from shares issued for the pending Clarion Events acquisition — pointing to underlying nine-month revenue growth of 6.5% and 8% growth in its live events businesses across the Americas, Europe and Southeast Asia.

However, a secondary drag came from the Informa TechTarget division, where nine-month underlying revenues fell 2% as technology clients redirected budgets toward artificial intelligence investment rather than product marketing.

The stock also continues to trade below the 860p placing price from the £940m equity raise completed earlier this month to part-fund the £2.24bn Clarion acquisition.

The broader London market provided little support today, with FTSE 100 futures pointing around 0.5% lower at the open, weighed down by HSBC’s disappointing quarterly profit figures and a generally cautious tone across European equities.

The UK macro backdrop has been challenging in October 2026, with consumer confidence deteriorating sharply and inflation remaining elevated, contributing to a risk-off posture among investors assessing domestically exposed stocks.

Taken together, the Saudi Arabia-driven revenue guidance cut — arriving alongside an already diluted share count from the Clarion fundraise and weakness in the TechTarget segment — gave investors enough reason to trim positions, even as the company’s long-term B2B live events growth story and earnings guidance remained intact.
