Why is Corcept Therapeutics stock tumbling today?
Shares of Corcept Therapeutics fell 12.9% in mid-day trading after rival biopharmaceutical company Genmab announced today that its Phase 3 RAINFOL-02 trial of rinatabart sesutecan (Rina-S) in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer met both its primary endpoint of progression-free survival and its key secondary endpoint of overall survival, with statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements over investigator’s choice chemotherapy. This result poses a direct competitive challenge to Corcept’s Lifyorli (relacorilant), which was approved by the FDA earlier in 2026 for the same platinum-resistant ovarian cancer patient population and has been one of the company’s most important growth drivers.
The competitive overhang was compounded by existing headwinds already weighing on the stock. One analyst downgrade had been recorded in the month leading up to today’s session, and the stock had already shed roughly 9.5% in October before today’s move, suggesting investor sentiment had been softening ahead of the Genmab announcement. With Q3 earnings expected in the final days of October or early November, some investors may also be reducing exposure ahead of what could be a pivotal update on Lifyorli’s commercial trajectory in a now more crowded oncology landscape.
The broader U.S. equity market provided little relief, with the S&P 500 dipping 0.2% and the Dow Jones declining 1.0%, while the Nasdaq managed a slim 0.2% gain. The mixed macro backdrop meant there was no sector-wide lift to cushion Corcept’s sharp decline, and the stock’s move stood in stark contrast to Genmab’s own shares, which rallied sharply on the same news.
Taken together, a high-profile Phase 3 competitive success in Corcept’s core oncology market, an existing analyst downgrade, and a neutral-to-negative macro environment combined to drive one of the stock’s more significant single-session declines in recent months, pulling shares from an opening near $106.05 down to a session low of $90.99 before a partial recovery to $93.68.
