Why did Tsingtao Brewery stock hit a 6-yr low today?
Tsingtao Brewery stock fell 1.3% to HK$38.30 on Thursday, briefly touching a six-year low of HK$37.20 intraday, after the brewer’s third-quarter report showed a steady decline in top and bottom-line earnings.
The results showed that standalone Q3 revenue declined 5.6% year-over-year to RMB 8.4 billion, while net profit attributable to shareholders dropped 17% to RMB 1.1 billion — with profit excluding one-time items falling as much as 25%. For the first nine months of the year, revenue slipped 4.5% and net profit fell 4.2%, as persistent weakness in domestic beer consumption and intensifying industry competition weighed on volumes and margins alike.
Adding to the selling pressure, Bank of America Securities published a research note today cutting its price target on the stock to HK$46.50 from HK$53, trimming its earnings-per-share estimates for both 2026 and 2027 by 8% each.
The bank attributed the Q3 profit miss to rising cost pressures and deteriorating operating leverage, while also pointing to a slow recovery in China’s food-service sector and unfavorable weather during the summer peak season; it maintained its Buy rating despite the revision.
The broader Hong Kong market offered little counterbalance. The Hang Seng Index traded sideways on Thursday.
