SoFi Technologies stock outlook: rate sensitivity overshadows strong growth

SoFi Technologies (SOFI) trades at $14.50 (as of Oct 26, 2026, 3:22 PM EDT), down 50.05% over 1 year and 45.65% YTD. It sits near the bottom of a 52-week range of $13.86–$32.73. The business is growing fast, but the stock is moving on rates, not on results.

SoFi Technologies (SOFI): Trading at $14.50 (Market Cap: $18.69B) || Fwd P/E 23.3x || P/B 1.7x || ROE 7.1% || Beta 2.33 || RSI 37.2

Sentiment: Bruised, not broken

  • Price action: The stock fell 12.6% over 1 month and 12.0% over 3 months. The RSI of 37.2 (momentum gauge, as of Oct 26) is weak but not oversold.
  • Analysts: Targets from September are well above the current price. These include Loop Capital (Hold, $22) (Sep 9), Piper Sandler (Overweight, $22) (Aug 17) and Scotiabank ($25). The stock was $17–18 when those were written, so they predate a further ~20% slide.
  • Insiders: An EVP sold about $173K of stock in September . That is small, but not a vote of confidence.
  • Valuation signal: InvestingPro fair value is $14.92, only 2.9% above the price. That means the market has stripped out the growth premium.

Fundamentals: Growth is not the problem

  • Revenue: It rose from $1.52B (2022) to $3.58B (2025), with 35.6% growth in 2025. Q2 2026 revenue was $1.20B against a $1.11B estimate.
  • Profitability: Net income swung from -$361M (2022) to +$481M (2025). EPS has beaten estimates in each of the last four quarters except Q1 2026, which matched.
  • The paradox: Despite those beats, the stock fell 12.3% after Q1 2026 and 9.4% after Q4 2025 results. A 22% tax rate and heavy product investment are capping EPS growth, and ROE is only 7.1%.
  • Balance sheet: Debt/equity is 30.8%, reasonable for a bank-like model. Beta of 2.33 means the stock moves much more than the market.
  • Estimates: Consensus EPS is $0.59 for 2026 and $0.82 for 2027. Revenue estimates have been revised up 4.04% over 90 days, while EPS has slipped 1.93%.

Next catalysts

  1. Q3 earnings, Oct 27, 2026 (pre-market, confirmed): Consensus is EPS $0.17 and revenue $1.25B. Guidance on the rate assumptions will matter more than the beat.
  2. The Fed path: On Sep 8, management shifted its back-half plan from two rate cuts to one to two hikes, while raising full-year revenue guidance .
  3. Newer businesses: Stablecoin settlement on Mastercard’s network (SoFiUSD, a projected $25B+ annualized volume), crypto, Big Business Banking and technology solutions.

Can it break free from rates?

Partly, but not yet.

  • Bear case: In August, a drop in long-end Treasury yields lifted SoFi, Upstart (UPST) and Affirm together (Aug 19). Loop notes that rate-hike risk and a shift toward balance-sheet-heavy lending will keep weighing on sentiment. Management also says student-loan and home-loan refinancing could suffer if rates rise.
  • Bull case: Management says guidance does not need a better macro backdrop. It cites a path to ~30% revenue growth through 2028 and a target of 25–30% return on tangible equity. Members grew 35% and products 43% in Q2. Fee-based and loan-platform income, plus non-lending lines, would reduce sensitivity to funding costs.
  • Verdict: Decoupling needs proof in the numbers. That means ROE rising well above 7%, and fee-income mix growing, without a drop in rates. Until then, the stock trades as a high-beta rate proxy. Tomorrow’s report is the first real test, since a clean beat followed by another selloff would suggest the market is pricing macro, not earnings.

Caveat: Analyst commentary dates from August–September, when the stock was higher. Fair value and consensus figures are current as of Oct 26.
