Anthropic posts $17B third-quarter revenue as landmark AI debut nears

Anthropic (NASDAQ:ANT) revealed a dramatic acceleration in commercial expansion ahead of its planned initial public offering, reporting third-quarter revenue of approximately $17.0 billion that surged more than twelvefold from the year-ago period. The disclosure, detailed in an amended Form S-1 registration statement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, underscores the explosive enterprise demand for its Claude platform while spotlighting the massive capital requirements underpinning the frontier artificial intelligence race.

Despite the rapid top-line trajectory, the San Francisco-based lab posted a net loss of $23.3 billion for the three months ended Sept. 30, widened from an operating deficit of $12.1 billion a year prior. Surging compute outlays drove total quarterly operating expenses up 292% year over year to $17.5 billion, reflecting the immense computational infrastructure required to develop and deploy frontier foundation models.

The amended prospectus also outlined unprecedented long-term infrastructure outlays, revealing committed spend of approximately $895.4 billion substantially tied to compute capacity and data center partnerships across cloud hyperscalers. Of that total, roughly $447.5 billion is scheduled to be incurred through 2030, with approximately $69.8 billion due within the next twelve months alone.

Enterprise adoption has served as the core growth catalyst, lifted by a reported net revenue retention rate of roughly 900% and a tier of 250 enterprise customers contributing more than $10 million in annualized spending. Meanwhile, on an adjusted basis, the company recorded nine-month adjusted operating income of $4.08 billion on revenue of $33.24 billion, indicating improving unit economics as newer algorithmic iterations compress cost-per-task metrics.

Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are leading the offering alongside 20 co-managers, with the company aiming to list on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker "ANT" ahead of the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. With bankers reportedly assessing fair valuation targets between $1.4 trillion and $1.75 trillion, according to Bloomberg, the market debut is positioned to challenge historical records as the first pure-play frontier AI laboratory to test public equity markets.
