Why is Trident stock surging today?

Trident stock surged 8.4% to trade at ₹24.07 during today’s session after the Punjab-based textile and paper manufacturer delivered a standout set of second-quarter results for FY27, with net profit after tax jumping 93.1% year-on-year to approximately ₹175–176 crore, compared with ₹90.9 crore in the same quarter last year.

Complementing the earnings beat, the company’s board of directors approved a sweeping ₹4,650 crore capital expenditure plan aimed at expanding yarn spinning capacity by 99,840 spindles, adding 336 looms to its sheeting division, boosting paper output, and establishing a 60 MW renewable energy project.

The operational performance underlying the profit surge was equally compelling: EBITDA climbed 46.5% year-on-year to approximately ₹314 crore, with EBITDA margins expanding by 600 basis points to reach 18% — a significant improvement that reflects better cost management and higher profitability in the yarn business. The stock hit a session high of ₹25.19, representing the strongest intraday level in several weeks, as investors responded to both the earnings quality and the scale of the forward investment commitment.

The broader Indian equity market provided a constructive backdrop, with the Sensex rising sharply and the Nifty50 also advancing during the session. However, Trident’s gain far exceeded the index moves and outpaced its Garments and Apparels sector peers by more than seven percentage points, underscoring that the rally was overwhelmingly stock-specific rather than a product of general market buoyancy. The stock had been under sustained pressure in recent months, having touched its 52-week low of ₹20.15 just days before the results, making the earnings-driven rebound all the more pronounced.

Taken together, the near-doubling of quarterly profit, a meaningful expansion in operating margins, and a bold long-term capex commitment created a powerful combination that reignited investor confidence in Trident’s growth trajectory, pushing the stock sharply higher and partially reversing a prolonged period of underperformance relative to its 52-week high of ₹30.94.
