Why is SCHOTT Pharma stock sliding today?

SCHOTT Pharma AG & Co KgaA fell nearly 2% to trade at €22.9 after RBC Capital downgraded the pharmaceutical packaging specialist from Outperform to Sector Perform, concluding that the stock’s valuation re-rating is now largely complete.

Analyst Charles Weston simultaneously raised his price target from €21 to €25, but the rating cut carried more weight with investors, as it effectively removed a key institutional buy recommendation that had helped fuel the stock’s strong run over the preceding months.

RBC’s note pointed to three consecutive quarters of above-consensus financial performance since the company’s end-2025 guidance reset, during which shares outperformed by approximately 55%.

Weston also flagged the recent sharp decline in competitor Stevanato’s stock - driven by lower sales volumes - as a reminder of how unpredictable customer order flows can be for suppliers of drug administration systems tied to the GLP-1 weight-loss drug market, a segment that is central to SCHOTT Pharma’s growth narrative. With the company’s full-year results not due until December 10, 2026, investors had limited near-term catalysts to offset the downgrade’s impact.

The broader German market offered little support for the stock’s decline, as the SDAX index - where SCHOTT Pharma is listed - opened the Thursday session on a positive note, underscoring that today’s move was driven by company-specific news rather than macro headwinds.

Across the Atlantic, U.S. markets were mixed, with the S&P 500 essentially flat and the Nasdaq under modest pressure, providing no meaningful tailwind for European healthcare names.

Taken together, a high-profile analyst downgrade arriving after a period of exceptional share price outperformance created a natural inflection point for profit-taking, sending SCHOTT Pharma toward the lower end of its intraday range of €21.9–€23.0 and reinforcing the view that, at current levels, the stock is closer to fair value than it was just months ago.
