Why is Nabors Industries stock sliding today?
Nabors Industries stock fell 1.4% in after-hours trading to reach $80.17 after the oil and gas drilling company posted third-quarter 2026 results that badly missed earnings-per-share expectations, even as revenue and cash flow metrics came in ahead of forecasts.
The adjusted net loss of $1.24 per share was more than eight times wider than the consensus analyst estimate of approximately -$0.15, representing a shortfall of over $1.00 per share and marking yet another quarter in which the company’s bottom line disappointed relative to Wall Street’s expectations.
However, quarterly operating revenue of $872.2 million rose 7% sequentially and topped analyst estimates, while adjusted EBITDA climbed 11% quarter-over-quarter to $245.5 million — also beating consensus. The company raised its full-year adjusted free cash flow guidance to $100–$110 million and reported record international drilling margins, with CEO Tony Petrello noting that the results demonstrate "the earnings power of our diversified portfolio." However, these positives were not enough to offset investor concern over the magnitude of the EPS miss. A director’s sale of 3,200 shares — cutting that insider’s ownership by roughly 38% — added a minor additional negative signal.
The broader market provided little directional influence on the day, with the S&P 500, Nasdaq, and Dow Jones all essentially flat. The stock’s after-hours weakness is therefore driven almost entirely by company-specific factors rather than any macro or sector-wide event. Peers in the oilfield services space, including SLB and Halliburton, had already reported Q3 results with modest revenue beats, setting a reasonably positive sector backdrop that Nabors was unable to fully capitalize on.
Taken together, the combination of a sharp EPS miss against a backdrop of improving but still-negative profitability, a recurring pattern of bottom-line disappointments, and an insider share sale was enough to push Nabors shares lower after hours, even as the revenue beat and raised cash flow guidance offered some offsetting reassurance to longer-term investors.
