Why is Mitsubishi stock rallying today?
Mitsubishi Corp. stock surged 3.9% to ¥4,957 on Wednesday after the Japanese trading giant released a landmark set of half-year earnings and also announced a major buyback.
Mitsubishi reported that consolidated net profit for the April–September 2026 period surged 74.2% year-on-year to ¥619.6 billion. Alongside the results, management raised the full-year net profit forecast by 9.1%, lifting the target from ¥1.1 trillion to ¥1.2 trillion, which would represent a record-high profit for the first time in four fiscal years.
Mitsubishi also said it will buy back up to ¥1 trillion of shares/
The earnings beat was broad-based, with energy and power solutions segments cited as key contributors to the strong half-year performance. First-quarter results had already shown operating cash flow and net income both running well ahead of full-year guidance, with management flagging potential for an upward revision in the second quarter — a signal that today’s guidance upgrade had been building.
Mitsubishi firmed past broader losses in Japanese markets, where the Nikkei 225 fell 2% on losses in tech shares.
