Why is SoftBank stock rallying today?
SoftBank Group Corp. stock rallied 5.0% to ¥4,475 on Tuesday, snapping a prolonged and steep decline as investors responded positively to the company’s $50 billion investment commitment in Malaysia focused on artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centers.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that SoftBank founder and Chairman Masayoshi Son had identified specific locations in Sarawak’s Kuching and on the Malaysian Peninsula for the planned development, reinforcing the company’s ambition to be a central architect of Asia’s AI buildout.
The rebound was also supported by compelling technical conditions: the stock had shed roughly 30% over the prior 20 sessions, pushing its RSI to deeply oversold levels and attracting bargain hunters. Adding to the constructive backdrop, SoftBank completed an early redemption of euro-denominated senior notes on October 23, a move that investors interpreted as a sign of improved financial discipline at a time when the company’s credit profile had been under scrutiny.
A broader recovery in technology and AI stocks also buoyed Softbank, with the sector recouping some losses after Antrhopic’s filing for an initial public offering helped reinforce the AI trade.
The broader Japanese market provided a powerful tailwind, with the Nikkei 225 surging over 1,100 points in early morning trading.
