Why is Geo Group stock climbing today?
Geo Group Inc stock climbed 1.9% in pre-open trading today after the company unveiled a major long-term federal contract, with the City of Big Spring, Texas entering into a 10-year intergovernmental service agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to activate GEO’s 2,329-bed Big Spring Complex. The facility is composed of two sites — the 1,404-bed Flightline Facility and the 925-bed Cedar Hill Facility — and is expected to generate approximately $200 million in annual revenues for GEO in its first full year of operations. GEO will provide a full suite of support services at the complex, including security, maintenance, food services, medical care, and transportation.
Chairman and CEO George C. Zoley stated that the Big Spring Complex "will play an important role in helping meet the need for increased federal immigration processing center bedspace," underscoring GEO’s continued role as the largest private operator of ICE detention facilities in the country. The contract also arrives just days before GEO’s scheduled Q3 2026 earnings release on November 5, adding to investor anticipation around the company’s near-term financial performance.
Today is also U.S. midterm Election Day, a factor analysts have flagged as a potential source of volatility for GEO given that roughly 48% of its revenues are tied to ICE contracts. However, with the bulk of ICE detention funding already appropriated through existing congressional budgets, the immediate revenue impact of a potential shift in House control is seen as limited. Broader U.S. equity markets are providing a constructive backdrop, with the S&P 500 up 0.6%, the Dow Jones up 0.7%, and the Nasdaq up 0.9%.
Together, the concrete revenue boost from the Big Spring contract, the proximity to the Q3 earnings release, and a positive market environment have combined to lift GEO shares in pre-market trading, with the stock currently sitting well above its 52-week low of $12.51 though still below its 52-week high of $33.17.
