Why is Eurocash stock surging today?

Eurocash stock surged 11.2% to reach PLN 4.74 during today’s session after the Polish FMCG wholesale and retail distributor published preliminary consolidated financial results for the third quarter of 2026 that far exceeded market expectations.

The company reported net profit attributable to shareholders of PLN 16 million, more than doubling from PLN 7 million in the same period a year earlier, while net profit from continuing operations reached PLN 29 million, up 44% year-on-year.

The earnings beat was particularly striking relative to prior analyst forecasts. Noble Securities — the main broker covering the stock — had projected a net loss of PLN 65 million for the quarter and EBITDA of only PLN 121 million; the actual EBITDA of PLN 216 million came in roughly 80% above that estimate, and EBIT of PLN 89 million reversed the analyst’s forecast of a PLN 10 million operating loss.

The outperformance was driven by a cost optimization program that reduced selling, general and administrative expenses by PLN 139 million, or 14% year-on-year, to PLN 822 million, more than offsetting the 8% revenue decline to PLN 7,280 million caused by Delikatesy Centrum store closures, franchise transfers, and Cash&Carry outlet reductions.

The move unfolded against a challenging broader market backdrop, with the WIG20 declining approximately 1% and the sWIG80 small-cap index — of which Eurocash is a constituent — also edging lower on the day, underscoring that today’s rally was entirely driven by company-specific news rather than any macro tailwind.

The results also included one-off transformation-related charges that reduced EBITDA by PLN 21 million and EBIT by PLN 22 million, meaning the underlying operational improvement was even stronger than the headline figures suggest.

Taken together, the combination of a massive earnings surprise, a sharp reversal from expected losses to actual profitability, and the validation of the restructuring strategy proved sufficient to sharply re-rate the stock, pushing it toward its intraday high of PLN 4.87 — even as the shares remain well below their 52-week high of PLN 8.05, leaving room for further recovery if the profitability trend continues into Q4.
