Why is Estee Lauder stock rallying today?

Estee Lauder Companies Inc stock rose 2.5% in pre-open trading after the prestige beauty group reported fiscal first-quarter 2027 results that handily beat Wall Street expectations, with adjusted earnings per share of $0.72 surpassing the analyst consensus of approximately $0.51 and revenue of $3.72 billion topping the $3.64 billion estimate — a 7% increase from the prior-year period.

Alongside the beat, the company raised its full-year fiscal 2027 organic sales growth forecast to a range of 4.0% to 5.5%, up from the prior range of 3% to 5%, and lifted its adjusted EPS guidance to $3.20–$3.45 from $3.10–$3.35, signaling growing confidence in the durability of its turnaround.

The quarter’s outperformance was broad-based but led by two standout drivers: fragrance and China. The fragrance segment posted 20% organic growth, propelled by double-digit gains across Le Labo, Tom Ford, Jo Malone, and Kilian, while mainland China net sales climbed 15% on a reported basis, reinforcing the thesis that the company’s recovery in its most critical growth market is gaining real traction.

Adjusted operating margin expanded 480 basis points to 12.1% from 7.3% a year earlier, reflecting the ongoing benefits of the company’s Profit Recovery and Growth Plan. The company also declared a quarterly dividend of $0.35 per share, payable December 15, 2026.

On the analyst front, Piper Sandler had raised its price target to $125 from $115 ahead of the report while maintaining an Overweight rating, citing an improved innovation pipeline and positive industry signals from peers. TD Cowen also initiated coverage in the days prior.

The broader market provided a supportive backdrop, with the S&P 500 up 0.4%, the Dow Jones up 0.4%, and the Nasdaq up 0.7% in early pre-market activity, reflecting a generally risk-on tone heading into the session.

The combination of a substantial earnings beat, a meaningful guidance raise, accelerating China momentum, and category-leading fragrance growth gave investors a compelling reason to bid up shares ahead of the open, pushing the stock toward $111.94 — well above its 52-week low of $66.22 and within striking distance of its 52-week high of $121.64, as the market increasingly prices in the success of Estee Lauder’s multi-year recovery strategy.
