Why is Computacenter stock surging today?

Computacenter stock surged 6.7% today after the FTSE 100 technology services group published a Q3 trading update confirming that third-quarter performance was ahead of management’s own expectations and announcing a further upgrade to its full-year 2026 profit outlook, with adjusted profit before tax now expected to reach at least £425 million.

That new guidance floor sits roughly 9.8% above the company-compiled analyst consensus of £387.1 million, marking the second meaningful upward revision to forecasts in less than two months.

Underpinning the upgrade was a record committed product order backlog of £12.6 billion at the end of Q3, up from £9.3 billion at the end of June — a rise of more than a third in a single quarter — reflecting robust order intake from hyperscale, neocloud, and enterprise customers across North America and the UK.

Analyst reaction was swift and constructive. Jefferies noted that "just 7 weeks after upgrading numbers by 18%, Computacenter has pulled forward another statement to highlight better than expected trading again," and added that the pace at which strong trading is compressing the company’s valuation makes it "increasingly difficult to ignore."

The update also came against a backdrop of broadly positive analyst sentiment, with the stock carrying eight buy ratings and three hold ratings and no sell recommendations heading into today’s session.

The sharp rebound was also partly a technical recovery: the shares had fallen nearly 5% on the prior Friday and a further 5.7% the Thursday before that, leaving the stock trading well below its 50-day moving average ahead of the update.

The broader UK equity market offered little support, with the FTSE 100 trading approximately 0.3% lower on the day, meaning Computacenter’s gains were entirely attributable to company-specific news.

On the macro front, UK October PMI data — Manufacturing at 52.8 and the Services and Composite readings both at 53.1, an eight-month high — signalled broad economic expansion, providing a generally constructive tone for UK assets even as rate-sensitive sectors remained under pressure.

Taken together, a second consecutive profit upgrade driven by AI infrastructure spending, a record order backlog providing strong revenue visibility, and a supportive analyst community combined to more than offset a soft broader market and propel the shares sharply higher during today’s session.
