Why is Cloudflare stock surging today?
Cloudflare stock surged 12.6% in pre-open trading after the company delivered a sweeping beat across all major financial metrics in its third-quarter 2026 results, reported after Thursday’s closing bell.
Revenue of $782.5 million grew 39% year-over-year — the fastest quarterly growth rate in nearly four years — clearing Wall Street’s consensus of roughly $736.8 million by more than 6%, while adjusted earnings per share of $0.38 topped estimates of $0.34.
CEO Matthew Prince declared it "the third quarter was Cloudflare’s best quarter ever," adding that the company "crossed $3 billion in annualized revenue."
The guidance picture was equally compelling and may have been the sharper catalyst. Management issued Q4 revenue guidance of $845–$846 million at the midpoint, approximately 6% above the consensus expectation of around $795.9 million, and raised full-year non-GAAP EPS guidance to $1.35 — the third upward revision of 2026.
Non-GAAP operating margin reached a record 17.5%, up 370 basis points sequentially, while billings of $846.2 million grew 35.5% year-over-year.
The company also announced the appointment of Christian Smith as President of Revenue to lead its global go-to-market organization, a hire that signals an intensified enterprise push. Adding to the positive tone, Zacks Research upgraded NET today and Morgan Stanley initiated coverage with an overweight rating.
The broader market provided a supportive backdrop. The NASDAQ advanced 1.5% today, reflecting a rotation into growth and technology names, while the S&P 500 added 0.4%. This environment is particularly favorable for high-multiple software companies like Cloudflare, whose long-duration earnings profile benefits from risk-on sentiment.
Cloudflare had entered earnings under pressure, having retreated sharply from its 52-week high of $370.35, so the magnitude of the beat relative to depressed expectations amplified the pre-market reaction.
Taken together, the triple beat on revenue, earnings, and billings — combined with a guidance raise that materially exceeded Street expectations, a landmark leadership hire, and a constructive macro backdrop — created the conditions for today’s sharp pre-market recovery in Cloudflare shares.
