Why is Clarivate stock sliding today?
Clarivate stock slid 5.4% in pre-open trading today after the company reported Q3 2026 results that beat on earnings per share but missed revenue estimates by a wide margin, triggering a negative pre-market reaction.
The global intelligence provider posted adjusted EPS of $0.21, topping the analyst consensus of $0.18, but revenue from continuing operations of $481.6 million fell roughly 16.7% short of the expected $566.77 million and was down 9.2% year over year, driven primarily by the impact of portfolio disposals.
The revenue shortfall was compounded by cautious forward guidance. For the full year 2026, Clarivate projected revenue of $1.96 billion to $1.98 billion, with a midpoint well below the analyst consensus of approximately $2.20 billion, while Q4 EPS guidance also came in at a midpoint below consensus expectations.
The recently completed divestiture of the Life Sciences & Healthcare segment — finalized on October 6, 2026 for net cash proceeds of $488.4 million — reset the company’s revenue base, making the headline miss even more pronounced in the eyes of investors, even as organic revenues edged up modestly.
The broader market offered little offsetting support. The S&P 500 was essentially flat, the Dow Jones was marginally lower, and the Nasdaq was only slightly positive, meaning the macro environment was not a meaningful tailwind for the stock.
Analyst sentiment heading into the print was already cautious, with a consensus rating of "Reduce" and the stock trading below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages.
Taken together, the combination of a significant revenue miss, a full-year revenue outlook that disappointed relative to consensus, and an already-weak technical and sentiment backdrop proved too much for the stock to absorb, sending shares toward the lower end of their 52-week range in pre-market trading.
