Why is Booz Allen Hamilton stock sliding today?
Booz Allen Hamilton Holding stock is falling 3.3% in morning trading after a volatile earnings-day session that began with pre-market optimism and quickly turned negative as investors digested the details of the company’s Q2 FY2027 results, released before the opening bell. The report delivered a strong adjusted EPS of $1.76 — beating the analyst consensus of $1.48 by nearly 19% — but revenue of $2.78 billion came in below the $2.81 billion estimate and fell 3.9% year-over-year, with the Civil and Commercial segment declining roughly 15% year-over-year to $702 million as procurement delays and contract recompetes continued to weigh on the top line.
The revenue shortfall and the depth of civil segment weakness overshadowed an otherwise constructive earnings picture. Free cash flow dropped 33.4% year-over-year to $263 million, adding to investor concern about the quality of the profit beat. Management raised full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $6.50–$6.70 from a prior range of $6.00–$6.35 and narrowed revenue guidance to $11.3–$11.6 billion, but the Street’s cautious stance — with analyst ratings standing at just one buy, twelve holds, and eight sells — left little room for the stock to sustain its pre-market gains once regular trading began.
The broader market offered no support. The S&P 500 was down 0.5% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was declining 1.2% in morning trading, with a tech and AI-related sell-off that began the prior session continuing to drag on equities. Rising oil prices and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East added to the risk-off tone, making it harder for a mixed earnings report to attract fresh buyers.
Taken together, the combination of a top-line miss, a sharply weaker civil business, a significant drop in free cash flow, and a negative broader market environment overwhelmed the positive signals from the EPS beat and the raised profit guidance — pushing shares to trade at $76.02, well below the day’s opening level of $78.30 and near the lower end of the session’s range.
