Why is Avolta stock surging today?
Avolta stock surged nearly 6.0% today after the Basel-based travel retailer published its nine-month 2026 trading update, revealing that Q3 organic growth accelerated to 4.6% from just 2.9% in the second quarter — a meaningful rebound that beat analyst expectations on revenue, organic growth, and cash flow.
The company reported IFRS turnover of CHF 10.66 billion and operating profit of CHF 882 million for the first nine months, with core turnover of CHF 10.44 billion and nine-month organic growth of 4.1%, or 5.2% when excluding the impact of the Middle East. Crucially, Avolta confirmed its medium-term targets of 5%–7% annual organic growth, alongside annual improvements of 20–40 basis points in core EBITDA margin and 100–150 basis points in equity free cash flow conversion.
Adding to investor confidence, CEO Xavier Rossinyol noted that the profitability gap versus the prior year was narrowing as new operations ramped up, and that organic growth remained strong into October, with preliminary October figures around 4% showing breadth across all regions.
Q3 equity free cash flow rose to CHF 294 million, up from CHF 287 million a year earlier, while the company’s ongoing share buyback program — totalling CHF 191 million in the first nine months versus CHF 129 million in the same period of 2025 — underscored management’s confidence in the balance sheet. This came against a constructive analyst backdrop, with Citi having initiated coverage earlier in October with a Buy rating and a CHF 55 price target, citing Avolta’s expanding global travel retail market share and its integrated duty-free and food-and-beverage model.
The broader Swiss market provided a modestly supportive backdrop, with the Swiss Market Index (SMI) expected to open slightly firmer on the day following a near-flat prior session, as European equities navigated a busy earnings season and digested the latest FOMC rate decision. U.S. markets offered a mixed signal, with the Dow Jones edging higher while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq faced mild pressure.
Taken together, the combination of a clear earnings acceleration, a narrowing margin gap, robust cash generation, a reaffirmed medium-term outlook, and a positive analyst setup gave investors the conviction to drive Avolta shares to a session high of CHF 48.30 — the stock’s strongest intraday level in recent weeks and a significant recovery from its 52-week low of CHF 39.60.
