Retension shares climb as Guggenheim sees upside from lead asset
Shares of Retension Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:RTSN) climbed 10% in early Monday trading following a bullish initiation from Guggenheim analyst Seamus Fernandez, who assigned a Buy rating and a $55 price target on the stock. Fernandez told investors that Retension offers a “differentiated approach to the ~30M U.S. patients with uncontrolled hypertension,” driven primarily by its lead investigational candidate, RTN-001.
Fernandez highlighted that RTN-001 improves upon first-generation PDE5 inhibitors, having been engineered to optimize drug delivery and penetrate central arterial tissue for broader cardiorenal benefit. The drug has already demonstrated initial proof of concept across two small Phase 2 pilot studies, showing placebo-adjusted systolic blood pressure reductions reaching “up to −12.8 mmHg.”
A central pillar of the analyst's thesis rests on the candidate's clean metabolic profile, which does not disrupt potassium or sodium levels or require routine laboratory monitoring. As a result, Fernandez sees “resistant HTN in patients with impaired renal function/CKD as an underserved beachhead where novel aldosterone synthase inhibitors (ASIs) are constrained.”
Looking ahead, the broker identified an ongoing Phase 2b trial due to read out in the first half of 2027 as the company’s pivotal valuation catalyst. Fernandez argued that if RTN-001 demonstrates clinically significant reductions of 7 mmHg or greater, Retension shares “could re-rate with multi-fold upside toward the valuations that hypertension peers commanded with positive Phase 2 data.”
