Cloudflare earnings analysis: questions answered and next catalysts

Cloudflare Inc (NET) reported Q3 FY2026 on Nov 5, 2026. It beat on every line, and the shares are up about 11% today.

Cloudflare Inc (NET): Trading at $271.48 (+11.03%) as of Nov 6, 12:50 PM EST (market cap about $96.56B) || Revenue $782.5M vs $736.8M est || EPS $0.38 vs $0.34 est (+11.76%) || 52-week range $158.83–$370.35

The move comes after a rough stretch. The stock fell about 23.8% over the past month and closed near $244.51 before the print. The beat therefore landed on a depressed base.

Questions Answered

  • Is growth accelerating? Yes. Revenue grew 39% year over year, against a 31% guide. That is the fastest in nearly four years and a 620 bp beat versus consensus. (Nov 6, 2026)
  • Did the guide hold up? Yes. FY2026 revenue guidance was raised by more than the Q3 beat. Q4 guidance implies about 38% growth. (Nov 6, 2026)
  • Can it scale profitably? Operating margin hit a record 17.5%. Non-GAAP gross margin did slip quarter over quarter.
  • Are existing customers expanding? Dollar-based net retention rose to 122%, and large-customer additions were a record.
  • Does AI demand show up in revenue? Apparently yes. Workers developers doubled to 10M this year. KeyBanc pointed to consumption revenue and "pool of funds" deals. Scotiabank notes traffic growth takes about three quarters to turn into revenue. (Nov 6, 2026)

The Beat Streak

QuarterEPS vs EstRevenue vs EstPrice Reaction
FY25 Q40.28 vs 0.27$614.5M vs $591.4M+9.01%
FY26 Q10.25 vs 0.23$639.8M vs $620.8M-21.10%
FY26 Q20.29 vs 0.27$696.1M vs $664.7M+2.50%
FY26 Q30.38 vs 0.34$782.5M vs $736.8Mabout +11% today

Cloudflare has beaten four quarters in a row. Even so, Q1 shows that a beat doesn’t guarantee a rally. Valuation and guidance shape the reaction as much as the beat does.

What’s Still Debated

  • Valuation. Analysts cut targets on peer multiple compression. RBC went to $350 from $405, and Scotiabank to $360 from $390. Cantor ($310) and Jefferies ($315) stay Neutral or Hold on valuation. Guggenheim cited about 30x EV/NTM recurring revenue. InvestingPro flags the stock as trading above its Fair Value.
  • Decelerating 2027 growth. Consensus has FY2027 revenue growth near 29%, versus about 32% implied for FY2026 and 39% this quarter. Scotiabank expects Q4 to exit near 45%, which would push that consensus higher.
  • Leadership change. Mark Anderson retires at year-end. Christian Smith, formerly of Splunk, takes over as President of Revenue. Sales execution through the handoff is something to watch.
  • Revisions have barely moved. Consensus EPS is up only 0.03% over 30 days and 15.3% over one year. Estimates likely reset higher after this print.

Next Catalysts

  1. Analyst revisions. Expect estimates to rise over the coming days, and the revision trend often drives follow-through.
  2. RBC technology conference, Nov 17–18, 2026. Management will appear, which gives a chance for commentary on agentic traffic and pool-of-funds deals.
  3. Q4 FY2026 report, tentatively Feb 11, 2027. Consensus is EPS $0.36–0.38 and revenue about $796M for the December quarter, then $828M for the March quarter. Whether Q4 lands near the 38% guide, or toward the 45% Scotiabank expects, will matter.
  4. AI traffic monetization. Watch for evidence that Workers and agentic traffic keep lifting consumption, plus any gross margin recovery.

Bull vs Bear

Bull: Growth is accelerating at scale, margins are at a record, and net retention is strong. Bear: At roughly 30x forward recurring revenue, there is little margin for error. The Q1 drop of 21% shows how fast sentiment can flip.

The stock was marked down 24% in a month on peer multiple compression, not on company results. Today’s rebound shows fundamentals can override that for a day. Whether it lasts is a separate question.
