Results in the 2026 U.S. Midterm elections are flying in, with the Democrats seeing historic results as the party flips several key seats.

Two major Senate results were recorded in less than an hour, with James Talarico set to win Texas for the Democrats for the first time since 1988, and Annie Andrews to take South Carolina for the party since 1998.

Another shock victory came for the Democrats’ Sherrod Brown in Ohio – a Senate seat that has not been held by the party since 1932.

The results came after US Senator Jon Ossoff secured reelection in Georgia, in a blow to Republicans who were eyeing the seat.

Other Senate seats to go Democrat include Illinois, Delaware, Rhode Island and Colorado as the party takes eleven to the Republicans’ five so far.

The Democrats would need to flip four seats in total to take control of the Senate, and are already projected to have flipped more than the three needed to take the House.

This lines up Hakeem Jeffries to be the next Speaker of the House, and the first Black speaker in U.S. history.

Live prediction market data shows that the Democrats’ chances of winning control of both the Senate and House of Representatives for the Democrats continues to grow as voting closes.

If borne out, the predictions would represent a major setback for Donald Trump as he enters the final two years of his presidency.

With the final votes now being cast, Kalshi is predicting a massive 99 percent chance of the Democratic Party taking control of both the U.S. Senate and House. The odds of Democrats winning both chambers of Congress were at 28 percent in January.

The prediction platform has reported that over $1.6 billion worth of bets on the Midterms have been placed with it this year.

Polymarket, another online prediction platform, also offered little hope for the GOP. Earlier on Tuesday, its bettors said that the Democrats have a 75 percent chance of taking the Senate while Republicans have a 26 percent chance of retaining it.

The figures represent the Democratic Party’s highest and the GOP’s lowest chances in the market of holding the House since July 2025.

Donald Trump Jr. joined Kalshi as an adviser last year and was given shares in the company worth around $300,000, according to The Financial Times. The president’s eldest son joined Polymarket's advisory board in August 2025 and has an undisclosed investment in the company, via his 1789 Capital venture capital fund, according to a press release.

Millions of Americans are heading to the polls Tuesday to vote in elections across the country. While President Trump is not on the ballot, he has encouraged supporters to “pretend” like he is.

Numerous polls have predicted grim outcomes for Republican candidates amid public anger over the soaring cost-of-living and the president’s unpopular war in Iran.

In the Senate, the GOP holds a slim majority of 53 seats to 47 held by Democrats and two independents who usually vote with the party. There are 35 Senate seats up for grabs in the midterms.

Democrats and Republicans are also battling for control of the House of Representatives, where the GOP currently holds a majority. Republicans hold 219 seats compared to the Democrats’ 214. A total of 218 seats is needed for a majority in the House. A number of polls have shown that the Democrats have a strong chance of winning a majority in the House.

A POLITICO Poll, conducted by PF Global, says that around 9 percent of Trump’s 2024 voters plan to cast their ballot for a Democrat in the midterms.
