Calling all kids: One spot is ready to hand out 14,000 candy bars – king-size!
Maine’s ‘Mr. Halloween’ has been giving away massive amounts of candy at his business for three decades
Take a king-sized candy bar – but first, what’s the password?
Peter Geiger, known as “Mr. Halloween,” will give away more than 14,000 king-sized candy bars Saturday at his business in Lewiston, Maine, continuing a Halloween tradition spanning more than 30 years.
The 70-year-old former Farmers’ Almanac editor is adding even more inflatable monsters and spooky characters this year, along with a bubble machine making its debut, he told WMTW. Geiger sold the Farmers’ Almanac earlier this year to New York-based Farmers’ Almanac LLC.
Maine department store Reny’s helped make the massive candy giveaway possible with a donation. But there’s a trick to getting the treat: Visitors must know the secret password, which Geiger will reveal Friday.
The annual giveaway has become a Halloween tradition for families in Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn area, with Geiger adding more candy and attractions each year. The twin cities are located in central-southern Maine.

“This has become such an event in Lewiston and Auburn, and I want to make it as much fun as I could possibly do,” Geiger told WMTW. “I think what really drives me on this is the fact that it's families. They're having fun, they're laughing, they're dressed up in all kinds of costumes.”
The event continues to grow. Last year’s giveaway featured 10,000 king-sized candy bars, 8,500 mini bars in a witch’s cauldron, more than 35 inflatable and mechanical creatures and a DJ handing out extra candy. It also featured three five-pound chocolate bars awarded to the 1,000th, 2,000th and 3,000th visitors.
In 2024, Geiger handed out 8,260 king-sized candy bars, according to WMTW.
