Why is Teleperformance stock plunging today?

Shares of Teleperformance fell 15.5% to trade at €68.28 during today’s session after the French business process outsourcing group released its third-quarter 2026 revenue results the previous evening and simultaneously issued a significant profit warning, cutting its full-year comparable revenue guidance from a range of 0% to +2% growth to a new range of -1.5% to -2.5% decline.

The company pointed to a more unfavorable sector environment than anticipated, with its Trust & Safety content-moderation segment declining far more rapidly than expected due to automation and AI-driven displacement of human moderators, as well as the accelerated migration of work to lower-cost offshore locations.

On the operational side, Q3 2026 reported revenue reached €2.532 billion, up 1.0% on a published basis but down 1.2% on a like-for-like basis year-over-year.

Excluding Trust & Safety, the group’s underlying revenue actually grew 2.0% on a comparable basis, underscoring that the drag is highly concentrated in that one segment.

CEO Jorge Amar stated that Trust and Safety "remained under pressure" and that "industry headwinds are slowing the pace of recovery," while the company also flagged that restructuring costs are trending toward the upper end of the previously guided €120–€140 million range.

The broader market backdrop offered little cushion. France’s CAC 40 index fell approximately 0.9% today, pulled lower by a wider European equity sell-off driven by fears that a Democrat-controlled U.S. Congress could impose curbs on AI data-center spending — a concern that rattled technology and AI-adjacent names across the continent.

Teleperformance, already under structural pressure from AI automation eating into its content-moderation revenues, found itself caught in both the company-specific and macro crossfire simultaneously.

Taken together, the combination of a materially downgraded revenue outlook, a Q3 performance that confirmed the acceleration of Trust & Safety headwinds, cautious analyst commentary, and a risk-off European session created a perfect storm for the stock today — sending it from a previous close of €80.80 all the way to an intraday low of €63.16 before recovering partially to current levels near €68.28.
