Why is Samsung Electronics stock sliding today?
Samsung Electronics stock fell 4.5% today as investors unwound positions following the release of the company’s full Q3 2026 earnings, which confirmed a record operating profit of 107.4 trillion won but landed marginally below the upper end of analyst expectations.
While the headline numbers were historic — revenue rising to 195.3 trillion won and net profit climbing to 75.1 trillion won — the market’s reaction was shaped by what lay beneath the surface. Net income, at 75.21 trillion won, was well below Bloomberg estimates of 89.06 trillion won.
Samsung’s foundry and mobile divisions both struggled in the quarter, with its mobile division facing increasing costs due to rising component prices.
The company’s shareholder return announcement, including a Q3 cash dividend of approximately 30 trillion won and a total 2026 return plan of 90–110 trillion won, had been widely telegraphed and failed to deliver an incremental positive surprise.
The broader market context amplified the selling pressure. South Korea’s KOSPI index pulled back after its historic 6.63% surge the prior session, which had been fueled by SK Hynix’s blowout results.
