Why is Nomura stock climbing today?
Nomura stock rose 1.3% to ¥1,452 on Thursday after Japan’s biggest bank clocked strong fiscal second-quarter earnings on continued resilience in its wealth management and core banking offerings.
Net income for the three months to September 30– Nomura’s fiscal second quarter– rose to ¥103.7 billion ($659 million) from 92.1 billion yen a year earlier.
The wealth management division was the clearest engine of outperformance, with revenue up 22% in the second quarter and gross income surging 44%, accounting for nearly half of the unit’s total contribution.
Recurring revenue assets rose 20% year-on-year to around ¥31 trillion, SMA contract values hit an all-time high, and assets under management across the investment management arm grew by ¥50 trillion to approximately ¥150 trillion — metrics that signal durable, fee-based income rather than one-off trading gains.
On the macro side, the Nikkei 225 opened 0.23% higher today as traders awaited the Bank of Japan’s policy decision, with a rate hold already widely priced in on Friday.
