Why is L’Oreal stock surging today?

L’Oreal stock surged 3.5% as investors reacted to a standout third-quarter sales report that comfortably beat consensus estimates across every business division.

The French beauty giant posted Q3 revenues of €11.56 billion, up 12% year-over-year, against an analyst consensus of €11.24 billion, while adjusted like-for-like growth of 7.7% nearly doubled the ~5.4% estimate that had been widely expected heading into the release.

The earnings beat was broad-based, with Professional Products and Dermatological Beauty each delivering like-for-like growth of 13.9%, and the luxury division outperforming its 4.5% forecast by growing 7% on a like-for-like basis, fueled by surging demand for fragrances and a recovery in China.

Compounding the positive earnings reaction, Kering formally agreed on October 22 to sell its beauty business — including the House of Creed and 50-year fragrance and beauty rights for Gucci, Bottega Veneta, and Balenciaga — to L’Oreal for approximately USD 4.70 billion, the company’s largest acquisition to date.

Goldman Sachs responded by raising its price target to EUR 450 from EUR 435, maintaining its Buy rating, while Berenberg also held its Buy rating with a EUR 447 target.

Today’s rally stands in stark contrast to the broader French market, which had actually declined the prior session even as L’Oreal’s results were released — underscoring that the move is entirely company-specific rather than macro-driven.

The CAC 40 had slipped on October 22, meaning L’Oreal is sharply outperforming its domestic benchmark, and today’s intraday high of €436.85 marks a fresh 52-week peak for the stock.

Taken together, the combination of a decisive earnings beat, bullish management commentary on full-year growth acceleration, a transformative luxury-beauty acquisition, and a wave of analyst price target upgrades created a powerful, multi-layered catalyst that drove L’Oreal to its strongest single-session gain in recent months.
