Why is EssilorLuxottica stock surging today?

EssilorLuxottica stock surged nearly 11.9% to trade at €168.45 after the group published its third-quarter 2026 revenue figures after the close on October 20, delivering a clear beat against consensus estimates.

The company reported quarterly revenue of €7.49 billion, ahead of analyst forecasts of roughly €7.35–7.37 billion, with constant-currency growth of 7.2% on top of an already demanding comparison base of 11.7% constant-currency growth in the same period a year earlier.

The Direct-to-Consumer segment grew 10.6% at constant currency with comparable-store sales up 6.8%, while the traditional eyecare and medtech business accelerated to above a 6% constant-currency pace, and Asia-Pacific stood out with 15.7% constant-currency growth.

The wearables division — encompassing Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses and the Nuance Audio line — posted 20% revenue growth to €486 million, providing reassurance to investors who had feared a sharper slowdown after the near-100% surge in the prior quarter.

On the earnings call, CFO Stefano Grassi noted that the company saw no material operational impact from the ongoing civil unrest in France and Italy, despite some temporary store closures.

Several brokers responded positively to the results, with JP Morgan issuing a Buy rating, Jefferies reiterating its Buy stance, and Stifel maintaining a Buy while trimming its price target to €260.

The broader European market offered little support on the day, with the pan-European STOXX 600 essentially flat as strong corporate earnings were offset by investor caution surrounding violent social unrest in France, where mandatory nighttime curfews had been imposed in Paris and Nice.

The CAC 40 — EssilorLuxottica’s home index — was navigating a turbulent week, meaning the stock’s outsized gain was driven almost exclusively by its own company-specific catalyst rather than any macro tailwind.

Taken together, a revenue beat that defied the pessimism built into a stock that had lost roughly half its value from its 52-week high of €323.80, combined with reassuring management commentary and a flurry of analyst endorsements, created the conditions for today’s sharp recovery, with shares hitting a session high of €168.60 before consolidating near current levels.
