Why is Booz Allen Hamilton stock rallying today?

Booz Allen Hamilton stock rose 3.7% in morning trading today after TD Cowen upgraded the government consulting firm to Buy from Hold and raised its price target to $95 from $77, pointing to four consecutive quarters of sequential funded backlog growth — which reached $5.7 billion in the September quarter — as well as improving federal civilian sales trends and a growing mix of fixed-price contracts that the firm views as a longer-term margin expansion opportunity.

The upgrade was not the only analyst action supporting the shares. UBS raised its price target to $86 from $79, maintaining a Neutral rating, while Citi lifted its target to $88 from $77, also keeping a Neutral stance. Both moves reflect growing confidence in the company’s recovery trajectory following fiscal Q2 2027 results released on October 23, in which adjusted earnings per share of $1.76 significantly exceeded the $1.48 consensus estimate, and management raised full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $6.50–$6.70 from the prior range of $6.00–$6.35. Partially offsetting this positive tone, BofA Securities cut its price target to $68 from $75 and kept an Underperform rating, arguing that the earnings beat was largely attributable to a favorable tax rate tied to Foreign-Derived Intangible Income planning rather than operational outperformance.

The broader market provided a mild tailwind, with the S&P 500 up 0.4%, the Dow Jones up 0.4%, and the Nasdaq up 0.3% in morning trading. The constructive macro backdrop, combined with a total backlog of $41 billion and a 1.5x quarterly book-to-bill ratio signaling healthy demand — particularly in the National Security segment — reinforced the bullish analyst thesis.

Taken together, today’s move reflects a confluence of fresh analyst conviction, a well-received earnings report, and an improved forward guidance outlook, all of which are helping BAH recover ground from a 52-week high of $109.10 that remains well above the current trading level of $81.21.
