Why is Bayer stock rallying today?

Bayer stock rose 3.2% to trade at 45.35 after two significant pharmaceutical developments landed over the weekend and early Monday morning.

The company disclosed interim results from the Phase III DASL-HiCaP trial showing that its prostate cancer treatment Nubeqa (darolutamide), used in combination with hormone-deprivation therapy and radiation, reduced the risk of metastasis or death by 58% compared with placebo after a median follow-up of nearly four years — a result that investors interpreted as a meaningful clinical validation of the drug’s expanded potential.

Adding to the momentum, Bayer’s stroke-prevention compound Asundexian — developed as the successor to its blockbuster Xarelto — received its first global marketing approval from Chinese regulators today, marking a milestone for the company’s cardiovascular pipeline.

Jefferies analyst Michael Leuchten acknowledged the Nubeqa data on the same day, keeping his Hold rating and EUR 46 price target intact, characterizing the trial results as encouraging but largely in line with prior expectations rather than a paradigm shift.

The broader pharmaceutical sector provided a supportive backdrop, with shares of Sanofi, Novartis, and Pfizer also advancing during the session. Bayer’s gains placed it at the top of the German DAX index, reflecting how the dual clinical and regulatory news distinguished it from peers on a day when the sector moved broadly higher.

The stock’s 52-week range spans from a low of 25.82 to a high of 53.98, and today’s price of 45.35 represents meaningful recovery from the lows, though it remains well below the yearly peak.

The combination of pivotal oncology trial data, a fresh international drug approval, and a broadly constructive environment for pharmaceutical equities converged to fuel today’s rally.

With Bayer’s third-quarter earnings scheduled for early November, investors appear to be pricing in an improving pipeline narrative ahead of that next major corporate checkpoint.
