Why is Airtel Mobile Commerce stock rallying today?

Airtel Mobile Commerce NV stock rallied 3.6% to reach 185.8p as the African mobile money operator published its first set of financial results since completing London’s largest new listing in five years earlier this month.

The company posted first-half revenue growth of 34% in reported currency, with total revenue reaching $830 million for the six months to 30 September 2026, equivalent to 25.1% growth in constant currency terms.

The board also declared an interim dividend of 6.4 US cents per share, representing 81% of attributable profit and in line with its stated policy of distributing at least 80%.

Profit after tax rose to $228 million from $188 million in the prior period, with basic earnings per share climbing to 7.9 cents from 6.5 cents, while operating free cash flow increased 27.1% to $378 million.

The customer base grew 18.7% to 56.7 million, driving mobile money penetration of Airtel Africa’s telco base to 42.9%, while average revenue per user rose 5.1% in constant currency, with transaction value per customer reaching $397 per month.

CEO Ian Ferrao noted that the company’s fastest growth was coming from payments, transfers, and financial services, describing these as "higher-quality revenue streams," and pointed out that roughly 75 million Airtel telco subscribers do not yet use Airtel Money, framing a significant untapped growth runway.

The company reiterated its near- and medium-term guidance, including an underlying EBITDA margin that moderates by up to approximately 2 percentage points in fiscal 2027 before returning to around 50% over the medium term.

Management hosted an analyst and investor conference call at 12:00 UK time, including a question-and-answer session, which helped sustain buying interest throughout the session.

The stock traded between a day low of 181p and a day high of 190p, comfortably above its 52-week low of 174.06p, though still some distance from its 52-week high of 203p.

The broader market provided a neutral rather than supportive backdrop, with US indices trading near flat and no major UK macro catalyst identified on the day.

Airtel Mobile Commerce only began unconditional trading on the London Stock Exchange’s Main Market on 14 October 2026, in what was described as the largest new listing on the exchange in five years, meaning today’s results represent the stock’s very first earnings event as a public company — a milestone that amplified investor attention.

The combination of above-expectations revenue growth, a dividend commitment, reaffirmed guidance, and a large addressable customer base still to be converted proved sufficient to drive a decisive move higher.
