U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.56%
U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Healthcare and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.56%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.46%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.45%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), which rose 3.21% or 6.97 points to trade at 224.41 at the close. Meanwhile, American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) added 1.79% or 5.79 points to end at 329.98 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was up 1.68% or 13.10 points to 792.26 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON), which fell 1.86% or 3.90 points to trade at 206.08 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 0.88% or 1.49 points to end at 168.75 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was down 0.84% or 4.20 points to 496.82.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Dell Technologies Inc (NYSE:DELL) which rose 15.81% to 492.20, FMC Corporation (NYSE:FMC) which was up 12.21% to settle at 13.33 and Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:CHTR) which gained 8.74% to close at 158.97.
The worst performers were Palo Alto Networks Inc (NASDAQ:PANW) which was down 9.28% to 328.48 in late trade, Edison International (NYSE:EIX) which lost 6.14% to settle at 55.19 and Palantir Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:PLTR) which was down 5.81% to 169.46 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Viomi Technology ADR (NASDAQ:VIOT) which rose 83.64% to 1.78, bioAffinity Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:BIAF) which was up 47.95% to settle at 9.75 and GoPro Inc (NASDAQ:GPRO) which gained 37.40% to close at 1.69.
The worst performers were Advasa Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ADBT) which was down 53.26% to 1.72 in late trade, Tscan Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:TCRX) which lost 42.80% to settle at 0.38 and CDT Equity Inc (NASDAQ:CDT) which was down 38.51% to 0.91 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1680 to 1040 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2156 rose and 1256 declined, while 199 ended unchanged.
Shares in Advasa Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ADBT) fell to all time lows; losing 53.26% or 1.96 to 1.72. Shares in Tscan Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:TCRX) fell to all time lows; down 42.80% or 0.29 to 0.38. Shares in CDT Equity Inc (NASDAQ:CDT) fell to all time lows; falling 38.51% or 0.57 to 0.91.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.79% to 15.23.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.83% or 36.49 to $4,432.89 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.42% or 0.38 to hit $90.60 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.58% or 0.55 to trade at $95.20 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 1.16, while USD/JPY fell 0.92% to 158.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 99.52.
