U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.29%
U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Industrials and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.29%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.70%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.83%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which rose 3.51% or 3.74 points to trade at 110.24 at the close. Meanwhile, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) added 2.39% or 5.04 points to end at 216.00 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was up 2.01% or 17.60 points to 893.28 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which fell 3.49% or 1.56 points to trade at 43.10 at the close. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) declined 3.21% or 4.66 points to end at 140.61 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) was down 1.88% or 2.12 points to 110.40.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Synopsys Inc (NASDAQ:SNPS) which rose 5.62% to 454.33, Akamai Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:AKAM) which was up 5.31% to settle at 98.50 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 5.20% to close at 391.59.
The worst performers were Fair Isaac Corporation (NYSE:FICO) which was down 13.15% to 708.07 in late trade, FMC Corporation (NYSE:FMC) which lost 8.71% to settle at 4.61 and Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:CHTR) which was down 5.92% to 102.18 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were GlucoTrack Inc (NASDAQ:GCTK) which rose 99.65% to 1.61, ClearOne Inc (NASDAQ:CLRO) which was up 52.92% to settle at 4.97 and Surgery Partners Inc (NASDAQ:SGRY) which gained 47.59% to close at 23.25.
The worst performers were 22nd Century Group Inc (NASDAQ:XXII) which was down 55.29% to 0.09 in late trade, Cumberland Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:CPIX) which lost 48.76% to settle at 4.35 and Xp Inc (NASDAQ:XP) which was down 48.37% to 15.71 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1411 to 1294 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1807 fell and 1600 advanced, while 169 ended unchanged.
Shares in FMC Corporation (NYSE:FMC) fell to 5-year lows; down 8.71% or 0.44 to 4.61. Shares in Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:CHTR) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.92% or 6.43 to 102.18. Shares in 22nd Century Group Inc (NASDAQ:XXII) fell to all time lows; down 55.29% or 0.11 to 0.09. Shares in Surgery Partners Inc (NASDAQ:SGRY) rose to 52-week highs; rising 47.59% or 7.50 to 23.25.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.45% to 18.39.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.29% or 11.63 to $4,026.77 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.47% or 0.48 to hit $101.28 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.53% or 0.59 to trade at $110.15 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 1.12, while USD/JPY rose 0.43% to 157.52.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 101.86.
