Turkey extends lower margin trading requirement to Oct. 30

Turkey’s Capital Markets Board extended the reduced minimum equity maintenance requirement for margin trading transactions until October 30, the regulator said Saturday.

The board lowered the minimum equity maintenance requirement to 20% from 35% on September 17, initially setting the measure to expire on October 2. The extension allows brokerages to continue applying the lower ratio according to their risk policies.

The September 17 decision was part of a broader package of measures implemented by the regulator following market turmoil. On the same date, the board ordered the liquidation of 131 investment funds and imposed additional market restrictions.
