Man Group stock surges after Meiji Yasuda commits $1.3 billion

Man Group (LON:EMG) shares rose 3.8% after the alternative investment management firm announced an expanded strategic partnership with Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company.

Meiji Yasuda intends to increase its capital commitment to Man Group’s investment strategies to JPY 200 billion (approximately $1.25 billion) over the next three years, with a particular focus on private credit. The Japanese insurer will also consider acquiring an equity stake of approximately 5% in Man Group to further align interests.

The expanded partnership, announced on October 26, builds on an initial agreement from February 2025. Under the arrangement, the two firms will co-develop products for the Japanese market, with Man Group becoming a preferred asset management partner for Meiji Yasuda.

The partnership provides Meiji Yasuda greater access to Man Group’s expertise, including knowledge sharing on technology and access to investment advisory services through the Oxford-Man Institute. For Man Group, the agreement supports its strategic ambitions to grow its private credit platform and serve large insurance clients globally.

Any acquisition of Man Group shares by Meiji Yasuda would be conducted in the open market, with no new shares being issued. The arrangement includes a three-year lock-up period from the date of the agreement, a standstill restriction capping acquisition at 19.99% of Man Group’s issued share capital, and orderly market arrangements for future disposals.

Robyn Grew, CEO of Man Group, commented: "Meiji Yasuda’s increased commitment to our investment strategies underlines our capabilities in private credit and demonstrates our ability to serve large insurance clients globally."

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The arrangements can be terminated by the parties in certain circumstances.
