Kodiak AI stock gains amid Stoneridge partnership announcement
Kodiak AI Inc (NASDAQ:KDK) shares rose 5.7% Thursday following the company's announcement of a collaboration with Stoneridge Inc (NYSE:SRI) to advance autonomous commercial vehicles.
The partnership begins with Stoneridge's MirrorEye Camera Monitor System being incorporated into newly deployed trucks equipped with the Kodiak Driver, Kodiak's AI-powered autonomous driving system. The two companies plan to explore integrating additional Stoneridge technology into Kodiak Driver-equipped trucks.
Stoneridge's CMS was the first to receive an exemption from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration that authorizes motor carriers to operate MirrorEye-equipped trucks without conventional rear-vision mirrors. Because MirrorEye's cameras sit in a compact wing above the cab door, the exemption gives Kodiak the ability to design future SensorPods without traditional mirrors, making them smaller, lighter, easier to replace and more aerodynamic.
The announcement comes alongside news from Wednesday that Kodiak secured a historic agreement with DTL Transport Inc., a California long-haul freight company, to deploy the Kodiak Driver in 75 driverless trucks owned and operated by DTL. The agreement marks the first-ever publicly announced definitive agreement by an interstate trucking company to operate driverless trucks within their own fleet as part of the Driver-As-A-Service business model.
DTL will deploy its Kodiak Driver-equipped driverless trucks on Interstate 10 between Dallas and El Paso, Texas, and along Interstate 20 between Dallas and Atlanta. The company will pay a per-mile fee for using the Kodiak Driver.
Kodiak plans to launch driverless highway service by the end of this year, carrying goods on behalf of IKEA on Interstate 45 between Dallas and Houston. As of June 30, 2026, the Kodiak Driver is already integrated on 35 driverless trucks owned and operated by Atlas Energy Solutions.
