India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.17%
India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.17% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NSE:INBK), which rose 2.17% or 21.20 points to trade at 999.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NSE:APSE) added 1.57% or 26.30 points to end at 1,699.00 and Axis Bank Ltd (NSE:AXBK) was up 1.32% or 16.60 points to 1,270.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NSE:TEML), which fell 1.65% or 26.80 points to trade at 1,596.20 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NSE:CIPL) declined 1.62% or 22.90 points to end at 1,389.90 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NSE:HCLT) was down 1.37% or 18.20 points to 1,313.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which rose 2.45% to 1,001.00, Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 0.89% to settle at 1,266.15 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which gained 0.82% to close at 1,686.60.
The worst performers were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 2.17% to 4,960.00 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 1.63% to settle at 262.15 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.62% to 3,140.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1600 to 997 and 48 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2368 rose and 1678 declined, while 179 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.20% to 11.34.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.21% or 53.46 to $4,468.06 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.78% or 1.62 to hit $92.63 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.55% or 1.48 to trade at $97.11 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.49% to 94.51, while EUR/INR fell 0.41% to 109.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 99.20.
