GM to move stock listing to Nasdaq in November, shares gain
General Motors Company said Monday it will move its common stock listing from the New York Stock Exchange to the Nasdaq Global Select Market on November 17, 2026.
The automaker’s shares will trade on the NYSE under the ticker symbol "GM" through the close of trading on November 16, 2026. Trading on Nasdaq will begin the next day using the same ticker symbol.
Paul Jacobson, executive vice president and chief financial officer at GM, said the decision reflects the company’s focus on technology. "GM’s customer-focused, technology-driven strategy is creating value for our stockholders, making Nasdaq a natural home for our listing as we grow," Jacobson said.
The move to Nasdaq makes GM eligible for possible inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 Index. The company said current stockholders do not need to take any action related to the transfer.
Multiple major companies have moved their listings from the NYSE to Nasdaq over the past 20 years in bid to bolster ’tech’ image and gain index eliginility. Nasdaq has also stated that transferred stocks often see tighter bid-ask spreads and improved liquidity.
GM shares were trading roughly 2.4% higher in pre-market Tuesday following the announcement.
