Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.86%
Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Financials, Healthcare and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.86%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO), which rose 4.19% or 1.42 points to trade at 35.31 at the close. Meanwhile, TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA) added 3.82% or 0.71 points to end at 19.32 and Trekor Metals Ltd (TSX:TKO) was up 3.79% or 0.36 points to 9.87 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Aecon Group Inc. (TSX:ARE), which fell 6.56% or 3.54 points to trade at 50.39 at the close. Finning International Inc. (TSX:FTT) declined 3.92% or 4.21 points to end at 103.06 and ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS) was down 3.26% or 1.26 points to 37.42.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 546 to 431 and 76 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.09% to 15.51 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.15% or 6.18 to $4,012.62 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.89% or 0.73 to hit $82.51 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.01% or 0.89 to trade at $88.99 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.33% to 0.71, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.12% to 0.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 100.79.
