Canada stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.74%

Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Financials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.74%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR), which rose 8.15% or 1.16 points to trade at 15.40 at the close. Meanwhile, AbraSilver Resource Corp (TSX:ABRA) added 7.49% or 1.10 points to end at 15.79 and G Mining Ventures Corp (TSX:GMIN) was up 7.22% or 3.54 points to 52.55 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which fell 5.62% or 22.86 points to trade at 384.25 at the close. BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) declined 3.13% or 0.34 points to end at 10.54 and Descartes Systems Group Inc (TSX:DSG) was down 2.85% or 3.18 points to 108.53.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 630 to 350 and 68 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.27% to 13.59.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.82% or 36.24 to $4,432.64 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.50% or 0.45 to hit $90.67 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.66% or 0.62 to trade at $95.27 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.40% to 0.62.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 99.52.
