Dem Keisha Lance Bottoms wins historic Georgia governor’s race to flip Peach State
The former Atlanta mayor will become Georgia's first black and female governor.
Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms won the Georgia governor’s race Tuesday, according to projections by CBS and NBC — in the first flip of the night in executive control of a state.
Bottoms led Republican Rick Jackson with 55.4% of votes to Jackson’s 44.6% with about 75% of ballots counted. The Associated Press has not yet called the race.
Bottoms, 56, is a former Atlanta mayor and Biden White House official. She becomes the eighth African American selected as governor, closely following Republican Byron Donalds of Florida.
She will be the first female and black governor of the Peach State.
