Weather experts issue dire Halloween forecast for SoCal with decade-old trend set to break
“Halloween activities are likely to be impacted,” the weather service said.
Southern California’s Halloween could be in for a soaking, with forecasters warning that a storm could bring Los Angeles its first rainy Oct. 31 in more than a decade.
The National Weather Service is warning that the odds of a wet Halloween weekend are climbing, with a 90% chance of rain somewhere in the region between Friday and Nov. 2 — potentially putting a damper on candy runs and outdoor festivities.
“Sadly, chances for wet Halloween activities are growing,” the National Weather Service in Los Angeles warned Wednesday.

“It looks like it will be a wet Halloween holiday weekend,” Rich Thompson, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Oxnard told the LA Times.
The exact timing and location of the rain remain uncertain, but forecasters say steady to heavy downpours are possible, with Halloween night among the periods that could be affected.
“Halloween activities are likely to be impacted,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion. “At this point, the most likely outcome is for a moderate-level storm in terms of strength and impacts, with a low but present risk for a higher level storm.”

“It’s the first [Halloween] in a while that could actually be wet,” Thompson said.
Los Angeles last recorded rainfall on Halloween in 2014, when a quarter-inch fell in downtown LA, according to weather service records.

Before that, the holiday stayed dry in the city until 2003, when about a half-inch of rain was recorded. The previous Halloween rainfall was in 1987, when 1.39 inches fell.
The potential storm could put an end to that lengthy stretch of mostly dry Halloweens, though forecasters caution that the outlook could change as the holiday approaches.
Until Friday, Southern California is expected to enjoy relatively calm weather. But residents along the coast face a different water threat this week as exceptionally high tides raise the risk of flooding and erosion.
The highest tides in Southern California are expected Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, when water levels could climb several feet above normal high tides.
