11 people, including 6 kids, shot in bloody altercation at Florida A&M University homecoming party
The exact number of victims and extent of injuries remains unclear, authorities said.
A bloody “altercation” escalated into gunfire at a homecoming party at Tallahassee’s Florida A&M University, leaving 11 people, including six children, shot Saturday night, law enforcement said.
Bullets flew when a fight involving “two or three individuals” led to shots being fired at just before 8 p.m. on Perry Street near Bragg Memorial Stadium, according to the Tallahassee Police Department and online reports.
“An altercation occurred between individuals,” Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said “We do not know exactly what happened. .. what we do believe is that this was an isolated incident between 2 or 3 individuals.”
Of those shot, the youngest was 11 years old. One victim was in critical condition, and 3 were in serious condition, but there were no fatalities. A 12th person, a grandmother, was injured while fleeing the shooting.
Revell said there had been no arrests, but cops were conducting a manhunt for suspects.
Witnesses reported a scene of chaos, which started as people were filing out of the football stadium at the Historically Black college.
“We heard a couple gun shots and a crowd of people running. I had gotten trampled a little but but as I got up, I turned to my right and saw a person laid out on the ground,” student Jayden Dubois, told WCTV.

Meanwhile the school said that after the shooting “the campus remains safe.”
“Community members are encouraged to avoid the area while officers conduct their investigation,” the department wrote on Facebook.
They added: “Our hearts go out to the victims and all those affected by this tragic incident.”
